Not all daylilies are orange or yellow...

To observe what most "professional" landscapers plant around buildings, you might be led to believe all daylilies are yellow or orange.  A company in our town is landscaping new construction with what we affectionately call "ditch" lilies - the old-fashioned orange ones you would see along country roads - hence the "ditch" nickname.  Those lilies will cause untold landscape management problems in just a few years.

Don't misunderstand - I love ditch lilies.  They are planted in many different places on our property.  I even sell them, but they are not meant for the professional landscape unless the landscape is some sort of natural garden.

(NB - all photos are from my garden and the colors have not been altered.  The only editing I generally do of my flowers is cropping.  You may click to enlarge)

And...while I like yellow and orange daylilies like this brilliant Rocket City...

wouldn't it be nice to see some lilies like this in the landscape...

Custard Candy

Fairy Tale Pink...

Wisest of Wizards...

Ed Murray, one of the original red daylilies (1971)  is a personal favorite...

Strawberry Candy...

and for you yellow lovers...

Have a sunny day...

Adrienne! Wow! Was so happy to see a post from you. I've missed you! Your lilies are, well, quite enchanting. Never knew they came in such an array of colors. Fabulous! Susan

Glenda - so nice to hear from you. I've been visiting you but haven't been leaving many comments. My bad!

Susan - I've been around. Having tons of dental work done (ugh!)

Root planing and now a new crown. I am getting a "free" tooth whitening, though. It's only costing about $2400.00 in other work. Heh!

Well since the good Shepard you sent me is happy in his spot as are the ditch lilies my aunt gave.....perhaps I should order some of those purple one to fill out my wall. Still got over half the wall length to plant.... Might need some pinks too huh?? But HOW will they ruin the landscape???
