One of the Lovelist Bottles in Your House

We all love making our homes look pretty.  It's what girls do.  But sooner or later we have to do a bit of maintenance - like cleaning.  I know, I know - it's an ugly word.  So let's talk about something that will make your life much easier.  Car wax.  No, I'm not telling you to run out and wax your car.  We're going to use car wax in the house to make our lives easier and make our house sparkle.

Get yourself some Turtle Wax - the plain-jane everyday variety without cleaners or abrasives.  It's inexpensive and will last a long time.

Here's what I use it on:

After cleaning the following items, I give them a light coat of Turtle wax.  It makes them shine and helps keep them clean.  After waxing, most of these things will clean up with a light wipe using plain water.
  • microwave
  • oven door
  • top of stove
  • toaster
  • faucets in bathroom and kitchen
  • glass shower doors (and the track)
  • sliding glass and closet door tracks
  • all the tile in kitchen and bathroom
  • bathtub (caution - do NOT do the bottom of your tub - too slippery)
  • bathroom sinks and the toilet rim
  • washer and dryer
  • refrigerator
  • mirrors (will also stop bathroom mirrors from fogging)
  • windows
  • garden clippers
  • scissors
  • drawer runners
  • snow shovels so heavy snow doesn't stick
Nothing is prettier than a house that sparkles.  And nothing makes us sparkle more then to have our lives made easier.

Something I haven't tried it on:

Here's something I'm going to try it on today.  While I've divested myself of much of my silver, I still have quite a few trays, pitchers, and other silver.  I like to keep it out because, well, it's a shiny object, and I love shiny objects.  This time of the year, when humidity is higher, it tarnishes quite rapidly.  I have no plans to spend my entire life polishing silver, so I'm going to try a bit of car wax and see if that helps.

This is my test piece - a darling little dish that is so old the copper underlay is showing through in places, which I think makes it look very charming.   I believe my father received this as an award for insurance sales, probably before I was born, making it over 60 years old.

I slapped some car was on it and will report back on the results in a week or so.  I know one thing - the wax made it shine like never before...

How many of you use car as part of your home maintenance?

I wish I had thought of this:

To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.

Hi Adrienne...Hmmmmm. Never tried Turtle Wax but I'll give it a whirl. Hey, I wanted to surprise you by sending you a bunny but directory assistance in Northern Idaho had no record of your name of a day lily nursery. Do you give out your address? My writingstraightfromtheheart@blogspot.com would be a private address. Let me know. Thanks. Bye Adrienne. Sincerely, Susan

for polishing silver, crumple small piece of foil in a large pot of water, add handful of baking soda and silverware, boil.

We've used Rain-X on the clear glass shower enclosure.

It works pretty well!

But, next house NO GLASS Enclosure for me. I would love a huge walk-in shower with 'surronds'. I'll even turtle wax the tiles.

Thanks for the awesome tips for all those wonderful other items that could benefit from a little preventative 'hardshell' care!
