Early Spring in North Idaho

I decided to allow "William" to share his metamorphosis over at Between Naps on the Porch.  He's earned the right.

So head over to see all the wonderful links and take a few moments to leave some comments.  Everyone loves comments!

Sunday Supper on the Deck...

I couldn't pass up the chance to sit in the sun and enjoy our Sunday supper.  To be able to do this on March 14 is truly bizarre.  W sat under our bare deck tree, William, and enjoyed a supper of homemade split pea soup that was garnished with a splash of extra dry sherry and a dusting of nutmeg.   Following the soup we enjoyed a baby spinich salad with thin sliced onions, mushroom, and pears.  The dressing was homemade vinagrette made with extra virgin olive oil.

The tree we call William used to be called Bill the Cat after the scraggly cartoon character.

He was a sad little tree with just a few branches and was not doing what I had intended him to do when I planted him.  Three years ago I decided I had nothing to lose and so I wacked him so far back we were terrified he'd die. This is how he looked last spring...

It's obvious he could no longer be Bill the Cat and so now we call him William...

Nothing like a bit of severe pruning to get their attentions! -LOL-

now, I want william to have a chat with my crepe myrtle!! haha

seriously, it went wild for YEARS AND YEARS and over the last couple seasons I've beent trying to get it into SOME shape.

tis March and time to prune again...gotta finish cleaning out beds first.

A#1 reason I LOVE bulbs. it's so damn satisfying to pull out a bunch of ground clover and dead stuff and weeds and see little flower leaves sticking up underneath yippeee! my favorite time of gardens!
