Second Sunday of Advent

Vintage Advent Calendar
Advent, the time leading up to the celebration of the birth of Our Lord, is not just about the perfect table setting, wonderful decorations, and finding the perfect gifts for our friends and family. While all this things are fun and can be worthy of doing, too often they can detract from the watchful anticipation of the main event.
"Advent is a time of restoration and renewal for ourselves. It is a time for us to put an axe to the root of every tree in us which is not bearing the appropriate fruit. You don’t need me to tell you what these might be. Just close your eyes tonight before going to bed and ask the Lord of truth to show you what things in your life you need to stop doing, and what things you need to start doing. He will tell you because he wants one day to be able to gather you into his barn." Father John Speekman - 2nd Sunday of Advent.

Nice, thoughtful post, Adrienne. And so true, too. Of course, I still love the decorating, etc. But I also like to stop and contemplate. Have a wonderful, peaceful week. Susan

What wonderful words to think about...the true meaning of Christmas is so often lost in all of the glitter and glam. Thank you for this reminder.
