Costco and Cheese

Anyone who has been here more than twice knows I "heart" Costco.  One of the reasons is the wonderful cheese selections they carry at super reasonable prices.

Last Sunday we popped in for a quick shopping trip and they were demoing Cambozola cheese made by Champignon.  One bite and I had to bring some home.

From Wiki:
Cambozola is a cow's milk cheese that is a combination of a French soft-ripened triple cream cheese and Italian Gorgonzola.

It was patented and industrially produced for the world market by large German company Champignon in the 1970s. The cheese was invented circa 1900 and is still produced by Champignon. In English-speaking countries, cambozola is often marketed as blue brie.
Call it whatever you want - it's delicious.  Not as much bite as blue, but peppier than brie...

Lunch yesterday was Cambozola cheese, my favorite crackers (from the Dollar Store, believe it or not), and San Juan canary melon.

It spreadable right out of the fridge but for best flavor let it come to room temperature (about 15 minutes)

And for the "hearting" Costco part?  I checked online and couldn't find any of this cheese for under $15 and some odd change per pound (Amazon)

Costco price?  $9.69 per lb.  Big difference!

The Champignon website has some fun recipes.  And if you Google Cambozola a gazillion recipes pop up.  Isn't the internet great?

What's your favorite cheese??

Adrienne,

I love Cambozola - It's like brie on steroids!

What a great deal you found at Costco. I like to buy my parmesan there. I can get an enormous wedge at a reasonable price and it's lasts forever.

I love ALL cheeses. I wish we had a Costco here (we only have Sams which I refuse to shop at). There's one about an hour away from us and now I think it's worth looking into. I also need to keep an eye on the dollar store for food; I never think about it.

Cherie - Sams and Costco are not the same animal. Sams is just a Walmart warehouse.

I worked for Costco for over 8 years (fabulous and high paying employer) and I can guarantee you will save the cost of the membership on your first trip through. Costco sells the highest quality stuff they can find.

You could easily plan trips every 6 to 8 weeks and make it a fun day. When I worked at the Spokane store we had people that came from Canada and Montana all the time.

I shop mainly at Costco and Grocery Outlet and I buy the loss leader at the local grocery store when it's something I want. About every 3 months we hit WinCo in Spokane for emergency canned goods.
